Both games draw their inspiration from the world of OSRS gold fantasy in RuneScape, Gielinor. They will utilize the characters, adventures and locales of the MMORPG has made famous over its lengthy history. The board game can send one maximum of 5 players in a quest-based adventure through the vast lands of Gielinor.

As per the press release released by Steamforged the Steamforged, players will "craft and upgrade equipment and characters, improve their skills, cook up special recipes, connect with NPCs and test their skills while exploring various areas of the world". Like the MMORPG, players will also come across side-quests to enhance the world of the game.

Additionally, the TTRPG is expected to comprise an exquisitely illustrated book with all the information required by players to run the RuneScape TTRPG. Players can build their own characters, and then set off to the realm of Gielinor to embark on "unique and exciting quests". In addition, the TTRPG guidebook includes "fully aligned with rules of fifth edition of the world's top tabletop role playing game".
